Eldon Street HSHAZ Animal Encounters Poetry Competition 2022

Eldon Street HSHAZ Animal Encounters Poetry Competition 2022

Fusion and the Eldon Street High Street Heritage Action Zone project, the HSHAZ, are giving schools across the Borough the chance to take part in a very special competition to get their poetry featured alongside that of Simon Armitage, the Poet Laureate.

Simon is the Poet in Residence for the HSHAZ project and has written a poem called ‘Barnsley, an Unnatural History’ inspired by Eldon St and some of the contents of the old natural history museum that was located on the street. You can find out more about the project and Eldon St by downloading the attached information pack which contains some resources to inspire your students.

Taking part couldn’t be simpler… we want students to write a poem, like Simon, about an animal encounter on Eldon Street or in the Victorian Arcade.

Deadline for entries: 19th July and number of entries to 30 (or 35 if you have a larger class).
